I've been accepted into the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP)!

Let me back up. I grew up in a town of about 3,000 people, and like so many rural communities in our state, we struggle to keep doctors nearby. When my grandmother got sick, we had to drive over an hour for her appointments. I remember sitting in those waiting rooms thinking, "This shouldn't be this hard for people." That's when I knew I wanted to be part of the solution.
The MRPSP is honestly one of the most incredible Mississippi scholarship opportunities I've ever heard of . They identify college sophomores and juniors who want to become rural primary care physicians and provide undergraduate academic enrichment and clinical experience in rural settings. Once I get into medical school (fingers crossed!), I'll be eligible for $35,000 per year for up to four years . That's not just money—that's the difference between drowning in debt and being able to focus on becoming a good doctor!
But here's what really gets me: in return, I'll get to serve four years in a rural Mississippi community of 15,000 people or less . Four years giving back to people like my grandmother, people like my neighbors back home. That's not a requirement—that's a privilege.
My professors at Mississippi College have been absolutely amazing through this process. They did mock interviews with me, wrote recommendation letters, and genuinely believed in me when I doubted myself . If you're pre-med and love Mississippi's small towns, PLEASE look into this program. It's competitive, but it's SO worth it.
Anyone else here a MRPSP scholar or applicant? I'd love to connect with fellow future rural docs!
