OKAY BULLDOGS, REBELS, AND EAGLES. LISTEN UP.
We are currently in the Summer/Fall 2026 advising window, and if you ignore your advisor's emails, you will show up to registration and see this beautiful message: "You have an advising hold. Please contact your advisor."
Here are the actual dates from your university's registrar so you stop asking "when is advising?":

We are currently in the Summer/Fall 2026 advising window, and if you ignore your advisor's emails, you will show up to registration and see this beautiful message: "You have an advising hold. Please contact your advisor."
Here are the actual dates from your university's registrar so you stop asking "when is advising?":
OLE MISS :
- Academic Advising (Summer & Fall 2026): March 10 – April 7, 2026. THIS IS NOW.
- Priority Registration: March 31 – April 14.
- Winter/Spring 2027 Advising: October 6 – November 3, 2026.
- The Trap: If you don't get advised in March, you don't register in March/April. Simple as that.
- Pre-registration advising: Typically a TWO-WEEK period officially scheduled by the university. For Summer/Fall, it's MARCH. For Spring, it's OCTOBER.
- The Rule: "The only way to be released to register for classes is to attend an advising session. Even if you have a financial hold on your account or are still determining whether you will enroll next semester, you should always plan to attend advising."
- Alternate PIN: You need this. It's not automatic. Meet with your advisor or you don't get it.
- Summer/Fall Advisement: Late February/Early March (you should have already received an email—if not, CONTACT YOUR ADVISOR).
- Spring Advisement: Early October.
- The Form: You fill out an advising form, advisor signs it, you send it to rita.goff@usm.edu, and THEN she lifts the hold. It's not magic.
- At MSU: Run a Degree Works report in myState BEFORE your appointment. Your advisor will love you. Bring a "backup list" of classes because your first choices might be full .
- At Ole Miss: If you're undecided or first-year, the Center for Student Success and First-Year Experience (CSSFYE) has Success Coaches who help with literally everything. Use them .
- At USM: If SOAR doesn't show an advisor listed? Email socFREEMississippi immediately. You are not "in the system" yet .
