I got accepted to Ole Miss and everyone here in California looks at me like I'm crazy. "Mississippi? Isn't it... backwards there?" I don't know how to answer because I've never even visited.

I chose it for the price and the specific program I wanted. But now I'm second-guessing. What if I hate it? What if I don't fit in? What if everyone really does think I'm a weird California liberal?

My dad says I'm overthinking. "College is what you make of it." Easy for him to say — he went to school in the 80s when things were different.

I need honest opinions from people who actually go to school there. Not stereotypes, not what Google Images shows. Real talk. Is Mississippi a good place for college?

I go to Southern Miss (different school, I know) and we have a ton of out-of-state students. The thing about Mississippi is that it's cheap to live here, so your money goes further. You won't find the same nightlife as LA or SF, but you'll find a really strong community. Your dad is kinda right. If you sit in your dorm judging everyone, you'll hate it. If you go to the football games and talk to people in your classes, you'll find your crew.
