How do I access free healthcare at the University of Mississippi?

I got sick last month and nearly panicked. No insurance, no money, no idea what to do. A friend told me about Student Health Services at Ole Miss and it literally saved me.

Here's the deal: your first visit each semester costs only $10. Compare that to urgent care ($150-$300) or a private clinic . I paid $10 for a doctor's appointment that would have cost me $200 elsewhere.

They offer way more than I expected. The director of University Health Services mentioned they have comprehensive women's health care, including contraception counseling, IUD placement, and routine preventive care .

If you're struggling to pay for labs or additional services, you can apply for up to $500 in assistance through the UHS Medical Expense Fund .

How to use it:
  • Call (662)-915-7274 to schedule
  • Two locations on campus, including the new South Oxford Center
  • First visit $10, then it's covered
Mental health services are also available through the University Counseling Center in Lester Hall — free counseling, and if you need medication, first psychiatric visit is $25 and all follow-ups are free .

I had no idea any of this existed. Why doesn't the university scream this from the rooftops? If you're at Ole Miss, use these services. You're already paying for them with your fees.

I'm a transfer student and had zero idea about any of this. The mental health services info is especially helpful—$25 for first psych visit then free follow-ups is incredible. Private practice would be $200+ each time.

One thing to add: the pharmacy on-site is also super convenient. They can fill prescriptions right after your appointment. No extra trip to Walgreens.

Also, the South Oxford Center location is newer and less crowded in my experience. Worth the short drive.
