What's the campus culture like at Jones College?

I visited Jones College and liked the campus, but I'm trying to understand the student vibe. A review on Niche said: “It's a quiet campus. Most people go home on weekends” . Another said: “If you join a club or play a sport, you'll find your people. If not, it can feel lonely” .

I'm from out of town, so I can't go home every weekend. I need a place where I can actually make friends. The same reviewer mentioned that the “baseball and softball games are fun” and there's a “student activities board that hosts events” .

Another student wrote: “The campus is small, so you get to know your classmates. It's not a party school, but that's fine with me” .

For current students, is it hard to make friends if you're not from the area? What's the best way to get involved? I'm trying to figure out if Jones will feel like home or just a place I commute to.

I'm a Jones student who lives on campus. The "most people go home on weekends" thing is true for locals. But there's a solid group of us who stay. We've kind of formed our own family.

Here's where to find us:

  • The library (the quiet section, but we study together)
  • The gym (basketball pick-up games on Saturday afternoons)
  • The cafeteria (Sunday brunch is surprisingly social)
  • The student center (people play cards and board games)
The best way to get involved is to just... show up. Consistently. If you're in the same place at the same time every week, people will start to recognize you. Then they'll say hi. Then you're friends.

Also: don't wait to be invited. Invite others. "I'm going to the game Friday, anyone want to come?" That works. People are lonely too. They're just waiting for someone else to make the first move.

Be the first mover. You'll be fine.
