Could someone from the Northeast who’s never lived outside that region truly fit in at Ole Miss?

Hi, I’m a girl from Massachusetts who has spent my entire life surrounded by a liberal, progressive community, and while I’ve been fortunate to thrive in that environment, I’ve never really stepped outside of the cultural and political landscape that defines New England. I don’t look Southern, I don’t speak with a Southern drawl, and my knowledge of Southern traditions, cuisine, and politics is fairly limited—yet I find myself drawn to the University of Mississippi because of its strong academic programs, vibrant campus life, and the unique opportunity to experience a region so different from my own. I’m curious about how challenging the transition might be and what adjustments I’ll need to make in order to feel comfortable both socially and academically. Will the campus culture be welcoming to someone with my background, or will I feel out of place amid the more conservative, historically rooted values that permeate parts of the South?
