I’m planning to apply for a Master of Public Policy in two years—what should I do next to prepare?

I’m excited to introduce myself and share my journey as I prepare to pursue advanced policy education. I’m located in India, where I’m completing my third year of an undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Political Science. While I face challenges—40% visual impairment and financial constraints—I’ve remained committed to my academic and professional goals. My passion for policy is rooted in hands-on experience, including roles such as:

• Research Scholar/Intern at one of India’s most influential policy think tanks, where I contributed to research and communications, analyzing public policy frameworks and drafting reports.
• Policy Research Aide to a senior member of the Rajya Sabha, supporting legislative drafting, stakeholder outreach, and policy analysis for the Upper House of Parliament.
• Fellowship Recipient in two prestigious policy programs, recognized as the youngest participant and awarded scholarships for potential to drive social impact.
• UNAI Millennium Fellow, leading a project that addressed education access in underserved communities through evidence-based policy solutions.
• Published Researcher, co-authoring two policy papers on education equity and technology integration.

I’ve also received glowing endorsements from a university professor and a senior MP, both of whom could provide strong recommendations. My focus areas are education policy and technology policy, with a long-term goal of working as a government advisor, IGO professional, or policy consultant. While I’m open to private sector roles, my ideal path aligns with top-tier policy schools.

Given my background and financial reality, securing a 90%+ scholarship is essential to make attendance feasible. I’m planning to apply in the Fall 2025 admissions cycle (allowing me to complete a research assistantship or internship by January 2025), but I’m open to delaying applications if strategic steps would strengthen my profile.

1. Are my experiences and background competitive for top programs, and how should I position them in my applications?
2. If waiting would help, what specific skills, work experiences, or projects should I prioritize (e.g., advanced courses, fieldwork, or leadership roles in non-profits/policy advocacy)?
