Okay, this might sound shallow, but the quality of campus food genuinely matters to me. I'm a picky eater and I've heard horror stories about dining halls. One sophomore at Mississippi Valley State wrote: "The dining hall food also wasn't the best, and options were limited." That was one of their main complaints .
But another student mentioned specific food spots: "Cafeteria and Checkers" and "Mondos" as options . A different student listed Waffle House, Subway, and McDonald's as places they eat . So not all campus food is bad — you just have to know where to go.
What I've gathered about different schools:
Ole Miss: Their dining program has won awards. Multiple dining halls, lots of variety, and Oxford has great restaurants off-campus. Students seem pretty happy overall.
Mississippi State: Good dining options, but some students complain about limited hours on weekends. The Union has several chains.
Southern Miss: Decent food, but a student told me it gets old after a while. "The same rotation every two weeks."
Mississippi Valley State: Reviews are mixed. A student said "the only change I would like to see is the food choices" . Another mentioned "Chicken Wednesday" as a favorite campus tradition — apparently that's a big deal . So they have their highlights.
What students actually eat:
A junior wrote: "My years at valley so far have been bittersweet. My best parts were marching in the band making that connection as a family" . Even if the food isn't perfect, finding your community matters more.
Still, I hope the food is decent. I'm not asking for gourmet — just edible and not the same five things every week. Anyone have specific dining hall recommendations or warnings?

What students actually eat:
- Cafeteria main lines (hit or miss)
- Fast food on campus (McDonald's, Subway, Checkers)
- Local spots off-campus
- Groceries if you have a kitchen
- Waffle House at 2 AM (classic)
