Private tutor or study group: which actually works better for you?

I'm in this super competitive pre-med program, and the pressure is unreal. I've been going back and forth on whether to shell out the cash for a private tutor for organic chemistry or just stick with our intense study group sessions. My study group is great for morale and we can commiserate together, but sometimes I feel like we're all just reinforcing each other's confusion. A friend of mine has a private tutor who apparently breaks things down in a way that just clicks. For those of you who've tried both, what's the real tea? Is the one-on-one attention worth the cost, or can a solid group get you just as far? I'm worried about falling behind, and I need to make a decision before midterms 😩

I tried both and here's my honest breakdown:

Study group pros:
  1. Free (huge for broke pre-meds)
  2. Teaching others = learning yourself
  3. Emotional support (crying together is bonding)
Study group cons:
  1. Can reinforce wrong info
  2. Easy to get off-track
  3. Not personalized
Private tutor pros:
  1. Catches YOUR specific gaps
  2. Explains things YOUR way
  3. Structured pace
Private tutor cons:
  1. Expensive ($40-80/hr)
  2. Hit or miss quality
My strategy: group for homework, tutor before exams. Saved money AND my GPA. Also—your school's tutoring center might have FREE peer tutors.
