I was never the "smart" kid. Average grades. Nothing special. But in this class, I'm good at something. Really good. The structured thinking makes sense to me.
The user-centered approach clicks. My professor pulled me aside after last project and said my audience analysis was the best in the class and I almost cried. Not because I'm emotional but because I've never been the best at anything academic. I always assumed I just wasn't that kind of person.
Turns out I hadn't found the right kind of thinking. Technical writing rewards a specific brain type—detail-oriented, empathetic, organized—and I apparently have that brain. Who knew? If you're reading this and struggling to find your thing, keep looking. The right fit changes everything.
Anyone else find a home in this field unexpectedly?
