I've been in nonprofit development for 6 years and finally decided to pursue my Grant Professional Certified (GPC) credential. Let me tell you—it's no joke, but it's absolutely worth it if you're serious about grants as a career .
The GPC is offered through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute and requires meeting eligibility points across education, experience, and professional development . You need 120 out of 170 points just to qualify for the exam . I had to document years of work, but it made me realize how much I'd actually accomplished.
The exam itself has two parts: a writing exercise and 150 multiple-choice questions . The writing portion tests your ability to make a persuasive argument (34% of the score!) and organize ideas clearly . I spent about 4 months studying using GPA's resources and study groups.
Is it expensive? Yes—$639 for GPA members, $875 for non-members . But the credibility it's given me with employers and clients has already paid for itself. I've had two job interviews where they specifically mentioned the GPC as a reason they reached out.
For anyone considering the GPC path, feel free to DM me with questions!
