I'm a freshman at Ole Miss and this weekend is our first home game and my roommates and I are hosting a little pre-game tailgate at our apartment.
I volunteered to bring food because I thought "how hard can it be?" and now I'm PANICKING because I want to bring something everyone will actually eat.
My roommate from Mississippi told me I HAVE to make the classic mississippi sin dip recipe because it's apparently "mandatory" for game day down here?
I've never even heard of this before! I'm from out of state and we don't have this back home. She says it's like a creamy cheesy dip baked in a bread bowl and people go crazy for it.
I've been looking online and there are SO many versions and I don't know which one to trust. Some have ham, some have sausage, some have green chiles, some don't. Some say bake for 45 minutes, some say an hour. I'm so confused!
For the seasoned tailgaters here: what's the ultimate mississippi sin dip recipe that will make people actually want to come to our tailgate? I want it to be authentic! I saw one recipe that uses pepper jack cheese and another that uses cheddar and Colby Jack . Some people add hot sauce, some don't .
Also, does it HAVE to be in a bread bowl or can I just make it in a baking dish? I'm nervous about hollowing out bread and messing it up. My mom always says "when in doubt, use a disposable pan" but I want the full experience.
