College admission essay writing service or therapist? (Kidding... mostly) 😅

Hi friends. I'm a huge perfectionist (recovering? still in denial?). My Common App essay has been through 17 drafts. Seventeen. And I still hate it. My school counselor says it's fine, my friends say it's great, but I can't stop tweaking. I've rewritten my introduction so many times I've forgotten what I originally wanted to say.

I'm considering a college admission essay writing service, but not because I want someone else to write it. I need someone to tell me when to STOP. 😂

Has anyone used a service specifically for final editing and "is this good enough?" reality checks? I don't need help brainstorming—I have too many ideas. I need someone to look at my 18th draft and say, "This works. Submit it. Go touch grass." 🌿

I've been looking at services that offer one-time comprehensive reviews rather than full coaching packages. Some seem to offer exactly that—a professional set of eyes that can catch the errors I've glossed over and confirm whether my essay actually answers the prompt.

The prices vary wildly though! I saw one service charging $300 for a single essay review, and another offering unlimited revisions for $99. How do you know which is legit? I read somewhere that the Federal Trade Commission has started scrutinizing some providers for deceptive practices , so I'm trying to be careful.

For fellow perfectionists: have you used college admission essay writing services just for that final stamp of approval? Was it worth it? Did it actually calm your anxiety or make it worse? Send help (and maybe a snack) 🍪

You need a professional to give you permission to be done.

For a single, comprehensive review, look at PaperHelp. They offer packages between $150 and $330 for two rounds of edits, and their whole approach is about preserving your creative voice, not overwriting it . Another solid option is Upward Path Institute, where students have said the essay specialist "taught him the right way to approach college essays" and "took a lot of the stress out" .

Stay away from services that push you into expensive, multi-month coaching packages. You don't need a life coach; you need a final set of expert eyes.
