Y'all I am SHAKING right now. 
I've been applying to every Mississippi scholarship I can find since last year. My family doesn't have money for college – like at ALL – and I'm the first one in my family to even go. I've lost count of how many applications I've filled out. Felt like I was just throwing stuff into the void, you know?
But I just got an email that I'm a finalist for the [Name] Mississippi scholarship through a local community foundation. It's not even that huge – like $3,000 – but to me that's LIFE-CHANGING. That's books for two years. That's not having to work 30 hours a week at the gas station. That's actually being able to focus on my classes.
The craziest part is I almost didn't apply because the essay prompt was intimidating. It asked about my "vision for Mississippi's future" and I was like... I'm just trying to survive, I haven't thought that far! But I wrote from the heart about my little town and how I want to come back and teach.
Anyway, I guess the point of this post is: don't skip the small local Mississippi scholarship opportunities! The big national ones are great but everybody and their mama applies. These local ones? Less competition and they actually want to invest in local kids.
Fingers crossed for the interview!
