I had to write a short story for my creative writing class. I was stuck on writer's block, so I thought, let's see what an AI homework helper can do. I gave it a prompt: 'Write a 2-page story about a haunted library.' The result was... soulless. It had all the elements—creaking doors, mysterious books, a brave protagonist—but there was no emotion, no surprise, no real voice. It was like reading a checklist of horror tropes assembled by a robot. I ended up writing the story myself, and it was way better (if I do say so myself). It made me realize that AI might be able to handle analytical or formulaic writing, but it has no idea how to be human. Has anyone else tried using AI for creative work? What was your experience? Do you think it will ever get better at capturing genuine emotion?

I asked AI to help me with a personal narrative about grief and it gave me back this Hallmark-card-level garbage about "cherished memories" and "angels watching over me." Like... no. Just no. The robot does not understand loss.
The creepy thing is, the grammar was perfect and it followed all the rules. But there was zero soul. It's like the difference between a photograph of a meal and actually tasting it. AI can describe the ingredients but can't make you feel full. Keep writing your own stories—that's where the magic lives!
