Hello, fellow writers!
I'm currently juggling my creative writing thesis with a final research paper, and the constant switch in writing styles is giving me whiplash.
In my academic work, using the third person is all about objectivity and formality – it creates distance. But in my fiction, third person is my tool for getting closer to my characters' inner worlds.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. Do you find this duality challenging? Do you ever accidentally let academic stiffness seep into your creative work, or vice-versa? I'd love to start a discussion on how we can consciously shift our mindset when using the same narrative perspective for such different purposes. What are your strategies for keeping them separate?
