I feel like no one talks about Mississippi University for Women in Columbus when discussing state schools. Probably because the name confuses people. Yes, it's called "The W." Yes, it was historically a women's college. And yes, since 1982, men have been admitted too. The name stuck, but it's fully co-ed now.

For anyone who doesn't know, she's one of the most important American short story writers, and she went here. The literary history on this campus is no joke. We also have the Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium every year and it's genuinely a big deal in the literary world. Famous authors come, give readings, hang out with students. I've met like five of my favorite writers here for FREE as a student. Where else does that happen??
