I'm really excited to dive into extracurricular activities at EMCC! As a busy student juggling coursework and other responsibilities, finding the right balance is crucial. One of the best extracurriculars I've found at the college Community College is the student government association (SGA). Engaging with the SGA not only allows me to be involved in decision-making processes on campus but also helps me connect with fellow students and faculty members. The leadership skills I've developed through my involvement with the SGA have been invaluable in both my academic and personal life.

Another fantastic extracurricular option at this school is the various club offerings. Personally, I joined the photography club, which has provided me with a creative outlet amidst my busy schedule. Through the club, I've met like-minded individuals who share my passion for photography, and we often organize photo walks and workshops together. It's a refreshing break from my academic routine and allows me to express myself artistically.

With so many extracurricular opportunities at the campus, I've learned that it's essential to choose activities that not only interest me but also fit into my schedule. Balancing academics with extracurriculars has helped me stay motivated and engaged throughout my time at the college. I've found that participating in activities outside of class enhances my overall college experience and has positively impacted my personal growth.

How about you? What are your favorite extracurriculars at the school, and how do you manage your time to fit them into your schedule? I'd love to hear about your experiences and any tips you have for staying involved while being a busy student!

Here are my recs based on actually being busy:
  • Baptist Student Union (GT campus) – meets during lunch hour once a week. Perfect for fitting into a class break.
  • Art Club (both campuses) – super chill, open to all students/faculty/staff, no pressure to attend every meeting
  • Student Voices – this one is actually really cool because it's about advocacy for community colleges. They do trips to the state capitol sometimes, but it's not a huge weekly commitment
The key is to pick ONE thing and commit to it. Don't try to do everything. I did that fall semester and nearly died lol. Now I just do Art Club and maybe one event per month. Quality over quantity!

Also, the intramural sports program at Scooba is great if you're into that – flag football, volleyball, basketball, even board games!

Photography club sounds awesome! 📸 I've been looking for a creative outlet too. Do you need your own camera or does the club have equipment? I'm at the Golden Triangle campus btw!
