What is the baseball culture like at Mississippi colleges?

I got recruited to play baseball at a Mississippi college. Coming from Texas where high school football is basically religion, I'm wondering what I'm getting into. A buddy who plays at Southern Miss told me: "Baseball here is like football in Texas. People live for it."

Mississippi State's Dudy Noble Field holds over 15,000 people. For college baseball. That's insane to me. One review I read said the team and coaches at Valley have been great — a freshman from Texas said his experience with the team made moving here worth it .

I'm excited but also nervous. Anyone know what the actual culture is like day-to-day? Do players get treated well? Is the travel schedule brutal? I want the real scoop, not just recruiting pitches.

The travel schedule can be brutal depending on your conference. SEC teams are all over the southeast — you're looking at bus rides to Alabama, Tennessee, sometimes flights to Missouri or Texas. Lots of missed class time. But most programs are pretty good about working with professors. Just something to be ready for.
